Origin: China, Japan
Botanical characteristics: It is a deciduous tree with a pyramidal growth habit first that becomes rounded then. It can have more trunks or just a single central trunk. Male flowers and female flowers are on separate plants. It has rounded heart-shaped leaves with serrated margins. They are bronze in spring, light green in summer and then they turn yellow, orange and red in autumn.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers fertile deep moist well-drained soil, preferably with a natural or acid ph. It must be in a position in sun or half-shade, sheltered from cold winds. Is sensitive to frost.
Use: It is cultivated in Europe as an ornamental plant for its decorative crown. In the garden it is used as a single plant or as main plant in flower beds.
